Why did you doubt?

The Lord walks on

troubled water to rescue those that are in trouble. In Matthew 14.Jesus said to Peter to come out the boat and walk to him during a terrible storm, the word encourages us to come out of our comfort zone and allow him to heal our various situations. We must not focus on the storm and concentrate on God to help us through a rough time. Research has proven that coming to Jesus can lead to a healthy lifestyle. A research journal conducted this study which is listed below and came up with these results;

Objective;

Many Americans use religious activity to cope with stressful life events. Our goal was to review systematically the recent medical literature to assess the role of religion in health outcomes.

DATA SOURCES: We conducted a comprehensive literature search using MEDLINE to identify studies published in the English language between January 1999 and June 2003 describing

the effect of religion on health outcomes. The search strategy used the medical subject headings of religion; religion AND medicine; religion OR intercessory prayer; prayer; prayer therapy; religious rites; faith; medicine, traditional; religiosity; religion AND psychology; and religion and health.

Religious intervention such as intercessory prayer may improve success rates of in vitro fertilization, decrease length of hospital stay and duration of fever in septic patients, increase immune function, improve rheumatoid arthritis, and reduce anxiety. Frequent attendance at religious services likely improves health behaviors. Moreover, prayer may decrease adverse outcomes in patients with cardiac disease. If we don’t allow fear to cause us to sink into despair because God’s word is there to rescue us just like it did with Peter. The things around us can make us become hesitant and not trust God and his promises. Yet, the Lord will never fail us and has promised to be there until the end. We just have to fight not to doubt by allowing the things around us to cause us to become afraid.

But Jesus immediately said to them:

“Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” 28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” 29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:27

Looking at this scripture from a behavioral standpoint we must take courage and not be afraid and come to Jesus with no doubt. Although the storm might be raging we must continue to focus on the Lord. If we focus on the Lord we will not sink because just looking at the above scripture if Peter was able to walk on the water and it was mentioned that Jesus said he had little faith. What would have happened if he would not have taken his eyes off of Jesus? We have the opportunity to not take our eyes off of Jesus daily and walk through some very horrific situations. Once we walk through these situations we will be able to say as the disciples that Jesus Christ is the son of God. This only occurs when we do not allow fear to control our senses during the storm.
